Large sterling silver pedestal basket with pierced foliate and trellis decoration, Sheffield 1953

£295.00

A beautifully crafted sterling silver pedestal basket dating to 1953, featuring intricate pierced openwork in a stylised foliate and trellis pattern. The flared body is scalloped along the rim, accented with diamond-shaped motifs to create a light and decorative silhouette. Raised on a broad spreading foot, this basket offers a fine balance between elegance and solidity, making it ideal as a fruit bowl, pastry basket, or centrepiece.

The basket is fully hallmarked for Sheffield, 1953, and also bears the additional commemorative hallmark for the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. A fine piece of traditional British silverware that bridges classical influences with mid-20th-century craftsmanship. Perfect for collectors of commemorative silver, traditional British decorative arts, or anyone seeking refined antique tableware.

191.58 g
15 cm wide (5.90″)
8.5 cm deep (3.34″)
6.8 cm tall (2.67″)

Excellent condition. Tiny dings to the foot consistent with careful use. The pierced decoration remains crisp and clean, with no visible repairs. Bright polished finish with clearly struck hallmarks. An inscription to the centre is present but does not detract from the beauty or display value of the bowl.
