Pair of Blue John serving pieces - fork and spoon

£200.00
Sold

This is a wonderful pair of serving cutlery implements, comprising a spoon and a spork (or cutting spoon). They are silver-plated with thick, robust Blue John mineral handles.

Blue John, also known as Derbyshire Spar, is a semi-precious mineral, a form of fluorite with bands of purple-blue or yellowish color. Mined exclusively in Blue John Cavern and Treak Cliff, it remains a quintessential part of English history.

These items are marked only with “EPNS,” indicating their silver-plated quality. The central bell shape is highly reminiscent of James Deakin & Sons, and they likely date to the early to mid-20th century.

They are in excellent condition, though the spork has a crack running down its body. Please carefully review all photos.
